Ethan turned his head sideways as he studied J.T.’s face. Wide eyed, the boy pointed at the scar with his index finger. J.T. wasn’t surprised. The kid was probably curious.

“How’d you get that?”

“A piece of shrapnel—” He paused and considered Ethan’s age. “I was in the war. A bomb went off and a piece of metal smacked me in the face.”

“Does it hurt?”

“Not anymore.” J.T. marveled at the innocence in Ethan’s eyes.

“Can I touch it?”

“I guess so.” J.T. breathed in and waited. Ethan hesitated, leaning closer.

“I’m not supposed to talk about your scar.”

“Who said?”

“Mama.”

“It’s okay. I won’t tell.”

J.T. turned his head to the side. No one had outright asked to touch the constant reminder of a day when his best friend caught the worst of an IUD. Hell, people shied away from his right side. Except Leigh, she looked him square in the face. He lay still while Ethan poked a finger into the scar a couple of times. After a few seconds of investigation, the kid cupped the scar with his small hand and patted lightly. The oddest thing happened to J.T.’s heart. It swelled inside his chest and then clenched.

“Mama said you were a brave soldier.”

Alien emotions swirled through J.T. and an unexplained urge to hug Ethan put a weird lump in J.T.’s throat. Unable to cope or understand, his mind raced for an idea, anything to end the moment.

My Thoughts:

Man! Being Me keeps you on your toes! I know I said in the review of If I Were You I didn’t want to say too much because I didn’t want to have any spoilers but this one is even harder! It is very imperative that you do read the previous book because you will immediately think wth did I miss?!?!

We start off with this book immediately where we left off in If I Were You. I find myself holding my breath and reading at the speed of light. We slow down some and tap into an emotional element between the characters. Sara and Chris’s relationship deepens and quite frankly so does my love of Chris. Lol. All I have to say is battered soul who needs some love.

I was really surprised by the ending of the book. Between some drama with Sara and Chris, the ending will leave you utterly shocked. I know I was sitting there, eyes wide thinking holy sh*t! It’s crazy!

I am definitely going to be on the lookout for anything I can get my hands on for the third book in this series. I NEED to know what happens! This is a must read that I have already been recommending and will continue to do.

I definitely recommend this book and series. It will keep you flipping those pages as fast as you can. I know it did for me!

My Thoughts:

This is the first time I’ve read anything by Lisa Renee Jones. I’ve heard her books were good but with a TBR pile being a mile long, I never got around to reading her before. I can say that I am now a big fan.

To describe the writing style of this book, it is like Fifty Shades. Everything I read has her being compared to the famed books left and right. Well considering I couldn’t get past the 6% mark on my Kindle while reading Fifty (for those who love this series, to each her own), I was not sure about If I Were You. Straight off, the writing is so much better and I could actually stand reading it! Lol! Now I will say that there were times I wanted to shake the crap out of Sara more than once because I felt she was a little on the naïve side, but I could look past that to the plot. I find myself trying like hell to figure out what happened to Rebecca myself.

This is a difficult review to write. There is just so much that goes on that is so important to the book that pretty much anything will come across as a spoiler. So let’s see…I can tell you that I think I am in love with the artist Chris Merit in this book. Lol. Of course I’m there are times where I think he is all sorts of a grade A a-hole but then he will turn around and redeem himself. And Mark, the gallery manager, I’m still not sure what to think of him. He does entice the crap out of me though. I can’t wait to read more about him in Being Me. I think there might be more to him than meets the eye.

The best/worse part of the book…the ending. It leaves you with your heart pumping and then it’s all like boom! You have to read the next one to find out what happens. Lol. I was all into what was going in and it should have occurred to me that I didn’t have any other pages to read. Thankfully sitting on my bookshelf was Being Me so I didn’t have to wait to read it.

I definitely recommend this book and series. It will keep you flipping those pages as fast as you can. I know it did for me!

And boy was it steamy!!
