Do y'all want to know how much I am kicking myself for never reading a Lori Wilde book before?!?!?! This book was amazeballs!

We have Gabi, who decides she's done with following in her parents' footsteps by becoming a lawyer, switches lives (houses, jobs, etc.) with a woman from Twilight, Texas through the holiday season. See, her family doesn't and hasn't celebrated Christmas since Gabi was a child because of a death of a family member, that left them all deeply mourning. This factor in the book had me crying while reading the emotional roller coaster Gabi went through. It takes some strong writing skills to make the tears flow for me. Gabi needed to walk away from her life and essentially press reset on everything, and figure out who she really is and what she wants out of life. I've found that as of late, I am reading more and more heroines that get on my nerves with their indecisiveness, but Ms. Wilde wrote Gabi in a way which shows that under all her inner debates about what direction she wants her life to go, she is a strong and kind woman. I was seriously girl crushing on Gabi, wishing I could meet her so we can become best friends.

But let's not forget Joe! Normally a wanderer, he finds himself taking over the daily tasks of his grandfather's Christmas tree farm, to help out his grandfather, who was out of commission while recovering from a stoke. What we usually see in romance novels from our book boyfriends is a brooding, silent guy who slowly becomes more attached to the love interest, all while ignoring his feelings. I really enjoyed that Joe wasn't this. Well, he had his moments at the beginning, but he quickly broke out of the proverbial mold and we fast found that he is this really great guy, and just what Gabi needs. I enjoyed seeing his struggle with his emotions, and I don't mean denying them. He knew he was falling hard and fast for Gabi and knew he didn't want to impede her journey to finding herself by clouding her path with his feelings. I think if Ms. Wilde would have written him a different way, I wouldn't have enjoyed Joe as much as I did, and it wouldn't have been a five star rating for me.

I really could go on and on, but then what would be the point of reading the book, right? :) Ms. Wilde has me checking my bank account to see what I can spare so I can go and purchase her other titles. It's not often a book can draw me in and keep my interest like hers did. Especially while I've been in a reading slump! I look forward to reading more books from this series and any other she writes. I'm sure they will all but as wonderful and captivating as this one!
