Can first love turn into the real deal in a sizzling new Fool's Gold story from New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery? Isabel Carlisle thinks she's cursed in the romance department. Her teenage crush, Ford Hendrix, ignored all her letters. Her husband left her for another...man. So Isabel has come home to dust off her passion for fashion and run the family bridal shop until her parents are ready to sell it. Then she'll pursue her real dreams. At least, that's the plan, until sexy, charming Ford returns and leaves her feeling fourteen all over again....

Seeing Isabel all grown up hits bodyguard trainer Ford like a sucker punch. Back when heartbreak made him join the military, her sweet letters kept him sane. Now he can't take his eyes-or his lips-off her. The man who gave up on love has a reason to stay in Fool's Gold forever-if three little words can convince Isabel to do the same....

My Thoughts

I have received numerous Susan Mallery books but have never actually read them. Not sure why but just never did. So with my first venture into the world of Ms. Mallery, it went a little something like this...

Isabel always held a flame for Ford ever since she was 14. Actually, she thought she was in love with him then too. After Ford left for the Army at the age of 18, Isabel wrote Ford for years even though he never wrote back. When she found out he was back in town and renting the space above her parent's garage, she expected to see him but it had been a few weeks and their paths had yet to cross. So what does Isabel assume? She assumes he's avoiding her so she goes to CDS where he works only to find out that he is even better looking than she remembers. It's like a punch in the gut. They clear the air and things from there progress quite naturally. Actually, I like that there isn't a bunch of awkwardness around the characters. I mean she had been writing him for years so how could they not fall into a familiar rhythm.

Ford is a natural charmer that is hard to resist. So when he asks Isabel for help with an issue with his mom, she at first is very adamant about not wanting to do it but after talking with her friends and going with her gut, or another body part *waggles eyebrows suggestively*, she decides to go with it knowing she should watch her heart because it would be super easy to lose it completely to Ford. What Ford didn't anticipate was losing his heart to Isabel and not even realizing it. Men are so blind when it comes to that.

The book was pretty enjoyable. It did however take me a short time to find Isabel not annoying. I'm not really sure why but it eventually fixed itself so it made me happy. This a great book to get lost in and just enjoy two people that were meant to be together. With a little humor thrown in for good measure, I found myself smiling along and rooting for them like crazy. Those two were made for each other.

  1. I love Susan Mallery's Fool's Gold series! As for writing to secret crushes/secret admirers, I never tried to. They always stayed my little secret. I guess that's part of the mystery of secret crushes! :)

  3. I don't think I could have ever written to someone like that. That was very brave of her because with my luck, just like hers, that person would come back around and I would have to face them. Lol.

  4. This is the first Susan Mallery book I've read. You'd think with all of her books out I would have read at least one but not the case. I like this and will have to catch up on this series and see about any other books I can grab. :) Thanks for stopping by!
