PLEASE EXCUSE THE MESS

Hello lovelies! Please bear with me while I make the transition back from WordPress to Blogger. I need to go through and insert images and do some more tweaks.

Expanding the Harmless Horizons with Melissa Schroeder (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Expanding the Harmless Horizons

Hi, my name is Melissa Schroeder.  I want to thank Crystal for having me on today.  For those of you who don’t know me, I am best known for my contemporary erotic romance Harmless series but I also write historical to futuristic and sensual to erotic.

My Harmless books have had elements of ménages in them before. A Little Harmless Pleasure has a scene and one of the free shorts features a ménage. But when I came up with Maura Dillon and Zeke O’Brien, I knew that there was something off. The two of them gelled but just not the way I thought they should. There was something—more importantly someone--It took me some hard thinking but I finally realized that Zeke was bisexual and he had an on again/off again relationship with Rory McAllister, his first love.

While I did feature an MMF in my futuristic release, The Last Detail, this was my first Harmless ménage and it features the first gay love scenes of the series. Seeing that this is book eight of the series, not to mention the three books of the military spinoff, it was a big change. But since I knew that was what this is what these characters needed, I dove right in.

Writing A Little Harmless Fantasy has been a challenge but a pleasant one. It has pushed me to my limits and part of it was adding that other element to the mix. The relationship expanded the book and I enjoyed it. There is a different combination in this book. There are four different levels to the relationships in this book. At the heart of it, there is the relationship of the three main characters, then, they have three more: Rory and Zeke; Zeke and Maura; and Rory and Maura.

Then, I had to figure out the BDSM element. Maura was a sub and Zeke was not a Dom. It was the failing part of their relationship. Their short fling died when they both realized she needed something more. In comes Rory, the man who is a Dom only with women.  And, I had the romantic storyline.

Rory was my biggest surprise of the three. All of them had secrets revealed in the book, but Rory’s emotional scars go back further and while he is a Dom in the bedroom, he is a little reckless out of it. He acts out on those emotions and most of the time he strikes out. Peeling those layers away has been a huge challenge.

There is a different rhythm to writing a ménage and an even greater change when the men are also involved sexually. I have no doubt my regular Addicts, as the superfans of the Harmless fans like to be called, will like the book. It is a little different, but they already like the characters. I hope that other readers enjoy the complexity of the emotions.

Melissa Schroeder is a military brat and military wife who fell in love with romance after accidentally picking up a Linda Howard book. Since her first release in 2004, she has had releases with eight publishers and has topped many bestseller charts, including A Little Harmless Sex that was named one of the top 100 Bestselling Nook Books of 2010. A Little Harmless Fantasy is her fiftieth release.

  4. I love menage, way better than mf. I like mmf and mfm. They are just superb!! I am definitely going to check out your Harmless series, you have me intrigued. I just love when a character refuses to cooperate until they get their way. Makes them more like real people rather than words on the page :)
    Great post!

  6. I love menages! M/M/F would probably be my faves, but I also like M/F/M. I have not read much in the F/F/M or F/M/F, they just don't do it for me, lol. Thanks for the great giveaway.

  8. I love the way Melissa has done menages in her Harmless series so far and I'm really excited about Harmless Fantasy. I always enjoyed a M/F/M and sometimes a F/M/F but have yet to experience a M/M/F. So this is a new experience I am waiting for.

  12. I love reading menages. Melissa has a way of making them so worth the while to read and she has a way of allowing you to become part of the characters.....making you feel as if it's you in the story and not just a fictional character. The Harmless Series, I am so in love with all the characters and that alone makes it hard to be patient in waiting for the next book in the series!!! She is tops in my book and list of favorite authors! Thanks for such great reads, Melissa! <3
