J. R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood novels have introduced readers to a "different, creative, dark, violent, and flat-out amazing" (All About Romance)world. Now, as the vampire warriors defend their race against their slayers, one male's loyalty to the Brotherhood will be tested-and his dangerous mixed blood revealed...
Caldwell, New York, has long been the battleground for the vampires and their enemies, the Lessening Society. It's also where Rehvenge has staked out his turf as a drug lord and owner of a notorious night club that caters to the rich and heavily armed. His shadowy reputation is exactly why he's approached to kill Wrath, the Blind King and leader of the Brotherhood.

Rehvenge has always kept his distance from the Brotherhood-even though his sister is married to a member, for he harbors a deadly secret that could make him a huge liability in their war against the lessers. As plots within and outside of the Brotherhood threaten to reveal the truth about Rehvenge, he turns to the only source of light in his darkening world, Ehlena, a vampire untouched by the corruption that has its hold on him-and the only thing standing between him and eternal destruction.

Have to say this guys looks sexy as hell! *grins*

Rehvenge was in interesting character to me. He is not a member of the Brotherhood but he seems to play an essential role in their everyday dealings. Rehv is half sympath, half vampire hiding who he really is. His sister doesn't even know what he really is. The Brotherhood just happened to stumble upon his little secret but have been closed lip to anyone outside of their circle. Because of his cryptic life, he is constantly drugged into oblivion to keep his skeleton under wraps. Sympaths are feared for what they can do so they have been secuded into a colony and anyone that comes across one is by law required to turn them in. So needless to say he is hiding in himself and is happy to stay that way. Until he meets Ehlena.

Ehlena used to be a member of the Glymera but when her father got sick, they pretty much got kicked to the curb. To make up for the money they no longer have, Ehlena works at the Havers' clinic as a nurse in order so they can afford their house and the nurse that stays with her father during the day. The only one able to stand being around the intimidating man, she is the nurse who usually attends to his visits. Each time she is near him, although she is fairly intimidated, she also feels a pull to know more about him.

Even after he is turned down multiple times by Ehlena, Rehv still takes any chance he can to talk with and be close to Ehlena. When she finally agrees to dinner, he fixes her a meal in his home instead of taking her out. He wants it to be just the two of them. He loves that she is not corrupted by all the evil in the world and can do nothing but admire her morals and strong will. When it seems that not even his drug haze can keep his "feelings" *wink, wink* under control, he decides to give in a little. Can we say steamy phone sex!

Eventually, they grow much closer and we find out more about Rehv's past and who is blackmailing him. All I have to say on that part is EEEEEEWWWWWWW!!!!!! I couldn't wait until that person was killed. We also see more into the lessening society which gives us more of a look into the giant douchebag Lash, apparent son of the Omega. I could have done with less of him in the story but it allowed the story to flow just fine. Between the hell of a ending to the book and the sweet love we see from our bad boy Rehvenge, my emotions were all over the place. If I didn't already like Rehv before Lover Avenged, I surely did after. I am so happy that he got to have his own happy ending. :)

Loved this story. Had so many great elements that made a terrific read!

Let's just say I will never look at a pair of stocking the same way ever again...

  1. Awwww I feel so bad for Wrath in this book. I can feel how much he's affected by his failing sight. Got to love George!

Rhev's stint with that sympath princess is yuky!

  2. I did end up loving Wrath more than I already did. :)
